South Africa’s national football team coach Shakes Mashaba will miss Tuesday’s friendly with Mozambique, after being suspended following an argument with South African Football Association (SAFA) boss, Danny Jordaan.
The incident happened when Jordaan went to congratulate the team in the changing room after Saturday’s 2-1 win against Senegal in Polokwane.
Mashaba reportedly shunned Jordaan who was in the company of Safa CEO Dennis Mumble saying Jordaan had failed to support him when he needed him the most during the most trying times over the past few months.
It is unclear though what Mashaba was referring to, he was however caught on camera wagging an accusing finger at Jordaan.
His assistant Owen da Gama will instead lead the team to Tuesday’s game taking place at the Stadio do Zimpeto in Maputo.
The relationship between the 66-year-old coach and SAFA is said to have deteriorated since South Africa’s failure to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
A month ago, Jordaan, allegedly threatened to sack Mashaba if Bafana Bafana failed to make it to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Mashaba’s contract ends after the 2018 Fifa World Cup, and hiring a new coach will not be easy for the association.
